Riviera Maya Luxury Hotel Experience
Set on the glittering white sands of Playa del Carmen, Viceroy Rivera Maya is a serene and tranquil escape hidden within the sanctuary of a lush tropical rain forest. This seaside refuge is the ultimate destination for a romantic getaway or rejuvenating retreat.
Arrival
The staff at Viceroy know how to start a vacation … Upon arrival we were greeted with a refreshing welcome beverage and cool towels, before leading us to our villa where the soap concierge cut hand-made artisanal soaps for our stay. To kick things off, we toasted with our very own Mezcal shots to set a festive, celebratory tone for our stay.
Ocean View Villa
A lavish break from the day-to-day, Viceroy’s rooms feature views of the resort and partial views of the ocean and Caribbean coastline. We stayed in the Ocean View Villa, a grand, elegant room perfectly situated just steps from the beach and near the resort’s sparkling pool. The Ocean View Villa boasts 1,700 square feet of indoor and outdoor living space, including a personal plunge pool, outdoor rain shower and lounge area and a spacious bathroom with deep soaking tubs and his-and-hers sinks.
Lose Yourself
We spent most of our time at the resort simply laying by the pool and walking the beach, but we enjoyed getting to take advantage of the resort’s unique amenities as well. Painter’s Corner provided the perfect place to explore our artistic sides or to read a favorite book, while The Library offered a taste of local flavor with Tequila and Ceviche tastings by the resort’s Maestro Tequilero. During this event, we were invited to review at least three high-end tequilas – each accompanied by different sangritas – along with the spirit history and proper drinking methods.
Dining Options
Indulging in the island-inspired flavors, our favorite spot was nestled on the sand with magnificent vistas of the turquoise Caribbean water. The Coral Grill featured “Al fresco cuisine” that focuses on locally caught and responsibly fished seafood, local organic produce as well as homemade pizzas baked in the wood-fired oven. The open-air restaurant let us savor every bite against a sensory backdrop of warm Caribbean breeze, fresh salty air and gentle lapping of the waves.
The La Marea Restaurant served prime views of the Caribbean Sea’s blue expanse alongside a menu featuring contemporary interpretations of Mexican cuisine with Mediterranean influences. The menu offers an array of daily specials and chef’s recommendations abundant in fresh seafood, local prime meats.
Reward Yourself
One of my favorite things to do on any vacation is take time to relax, and the lush tropical landscape of Wayak Spa let me rejuvenate and refresh both mind and body. Offering holistic and Mayan inspired treatments, every spa guest can experience an invaluable sense of renewal through unique and nourishing massages, facials, body treatments and body wraps.
